The operational centres in Broad Haven and Manorbier are right next to the beach and provide great opportunities for Coasteering, sea cliff climbing and body boarding. We also offer sit on top kayaking, coastal treks and bush craft from these locations. We do offer evening activities as well but at these two locations there are great opportunities for self lead evening activities such as beach games and of course beach combing. Locally there are many places of interest to substitute your activity break in South Wales.

Further inland there is our operational centre just outside Brecon, here you are in the centre of the Brecon Beacons, great for Mountaineering, Caving, Climbing & Abseiling and Gorge Walking, also known as Canyoning.

We offer 2 – 5 day residential programmes which are completely flexible and are designed at a level to meet your pupils age and level of ability. Thus our residential activity programmes are suitable for all school year groups.

All our instructors hold full National Governing Body Awards, and have at least three years post qualification experience. All are very experienced and worldly instructors, many have worked with us on our European School Trips. When they are not working they are on the rivers and rock faces of South Wales. “You have to live the dream to share it!!!”

We also offer school tips to North Wales. Here we operate from Conwy on the North Wales Coast and Bryn Gwynant, Llanberis and Snowdon Ranger in the Snowdonia National Park. Here we also have a wide range of activity programmes to suit pupils of all ages and abilities. Activity programmes here are mostly based around mountain activities such as: Climbing, Mountaineering, Mountain Biking, Gorge Walking and Bush Craft. However we are still able to offer some fantastic coasteering trips to Anglesey which we usually pair up with beach games, climbing or sit on top kayaking.

Brecon Beacons

Set in the centre of the Brecon Beacons, this is the ideal location for your mountain adventure residential. The building is an old farm house converted into dormitories. The main building of 36 beds (including 1 double), and the annex of 8 beds (including 2 doubles) – a total of 44 places.

YHA St Davids

YHA St Davids is set just below Carn Ffaid mountain. It is a converted farm and outbuildings, the main building has a common room, small kitchen and a 4 bedded family room on the bottom floor. The old milking parlour has been nicely converted into five 2 bedded rooms and two 4 bedded rooms with showers and toilets at the end of the building.

Sit on top kayaking is an accessible, fun way to explore our rivers and sheltered bay of South Wales. Our instructors have a wealth of experience and are able to guide your pupils to some of the most spectacular scenery in South Wales. We have found that pupils find the sit on top kayaks less intimidating that the tradition sit in kayaks where some pupils feel trapped and enclosed. Sit on tops give you all the fun and excitement but with a much greater sense of freedom and safety.

Here at School Trips Wales we provide induction days for 6th form students and other induction events. Our team is widely experienced in team building and enabling students to get to know each other and develop confidence and self-esteem. Our team development exercises will challenge and enhance team working. Studies have clearly shown that pupils that have taken part in an outdoor team building event prior to joining the sixth form are more confident and adjust to higher education where self lead study starts to take precedence. Open to all levels of ability. Gorge Walking or Canyoning as it is also known, is everything your mother told you not to do in rivers. Jumping off waterfalls, abseiling down cliffs into plunge pools sliding down rocks and most of all getting wet. We have a wide range of locations from our Brecon Beacons operational centre, so if you want to spend a more sedate trip taking in some history, geology and breathtaking scenery, or a full on adrenaline hit we have the location for you. South Wales is home to some of the most outstanding mountain biking locations, unfortunately we cab only offer mountain biking at our operational centre in Brecon. However, at Brecon School Trips Wales, can offer taster sessions, skills development courses right up to instructor training. Mountain Biking is open to all levels of ability. As a registered centre for mountain bike leader training you are in the right hands to really develop your skills and learn new ones. You will get involved in drop offs, technical climbing, single track, bunny hops and learn how to ride technical trails.

For the ultimate coastal challenge, try coasteering. Pembrokeshire offers some superb locations for this exciting sport, ideal as part of your  activity programme at Broad Haven or Manorbier. The first recorded caving trip took place in 853 B.C. by the Assyrian King Shalmaneser III at Lidje in Kurdistan, near the source of the Tigris. Now South Wales offers some of the best caves to visit in the country. Explore the hidden world beneath our feet, there are passages that have been opened up by water creeping through faults in the rock over thousands of years. Sights that have only been glimpsed by a privileged few.

Our operational centre at Brecon in South Wales is surrounded by an area of outstanding natural beauty, the Brecon Beacons. Why not try a mountain day and get a different view of the South Wales countryside. We can off gentle half day mountain walks to look at areas of outstanding natural beauty or scientific interest. Alternatively we can offer a full on day or multi day mountain expedition. Also available, special interest lessons for schools is searching for fallen Second World War aircraft.

School Trips Wales: BMX Biking

Relatively new sport to outdoor centres. Uses small single gear bikes to complete an obstacle course which may have features such as 2 or 3 steps to go down, jumps, balance beam (ride along a relatively narrow plank), table tops (earth mound with a flat top so riders can make a jump of if they want or simply ride down the other side). Induction training is part of the half day session. This can be an evening session for groups of 10.

Orienteering is an ideal way to introduce people into navigation and is a sport in its own right. We have many courses and a team of highly experienced instructors to guide you though the basics or advanced navigation. You are given a simple map and compass and you have to complete a course round the centre or nearby location to find markers with letters or numbers on for you to collect. Quickest one to locate all posts wins. Usually an evening activity.
