School Trips Wales: Hill Walking & Mountaineering

School Trips Wales: Hill Walking & Mountaineering

School Trips Wales offers some of the most outstanding hill walking and mountaineering opportunities in Wales. Operational centres such as the Brecon Beacons centre offer immediate access to the spectacular Brecon Beacons Nation Park. This is the perfect environment for pupils to learn how to look after their own physical and mental wellbeing. Hillwalking and mountaineering with optional overnight expeditions can be used to support the ‘healthy lifestyles’ element of Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) within the national curriculum. In our operational centres in Pembrokeshire pupils will have the opportunity to take part in coastal treks that follow the most beautiful coastline in Wales. Coastal treks provide a great chance to encounter rarely seen wildlife sheltering in hidden coves and sea caves.

Our instructors are widely experienced and have travelled extensively around the mountainous regions of the world. Under the guidance of our qualified mountain leaders, Pupils will learn how to equip themselves and stay safe in this challenging environment. The emphasis will be on experiential learning that will provide opportunities for pupils to learn new skills, such as navigation, knowledge of the natural environment, fauna and flora, and awareness of the effects of mountains on the weather.  A day in the mountains will enable them to look after their own wellbeing as well as the welfare of others more sensitively.
