School Trips Wales: School Trips To Crete
Without doubt if you are looking for adventure travel then Crete is the best European destination. It’s ideal for an adventurous school trip abroad. Apart from the obvious local cultural visits, Crete is a great location for adventurous activities. Crete is well known as a package holiday destination, but we aim to give you a chance to sample its traditional hospitality among real locals. We rarely go to package tour locations and we definitely don’t use any package tour accommodation. The people you meet are our personal friends: people we climb with, ride with, canoe with and cave with. We operate from fully catered hotels, although half board or self catering are all available if you prefer. We are based in a small coastal village called Kalyves it is a small fishing village with low level tourism which has not taken from its natural charm.
For your adventure travel trip to Crete, we operate Expeditions and Multi Activity Weeks. Trips include all our usual range of activities, which are all provided by your UK qualified instructor so you can be sure of the same safety standards as the UK. Our good friends, Vassilis and Eftekis, are our local guides; they are total professionals in their sport and obviously have unquestionable local knowledge to take you to off-beat locations and places of interest. This is definitely not the usual bucket and spade package holiday, so be prepared for something exciting and a little different. We have several programmes of activities to suit all tastes, and they can all be changed to suit your personal needs, but here is one that seems to be popular.
There are a wide selection of flights to Crete in season these day, but we generally arrive in Kalyves about mid-afternoon. Once you have settled in, we will take you for a walk around the village to show you the best shops and tavernas. We usually then start your tip with a series of team building activities to get everyone working together and set the theme for the week. Then it’s time to get down to the beach for a swim before your evening meal. Full catering, half board and self catering are all available.
Today we travel to the Kalthas to go climbing and abseiling. After lunch on the beach, we travel to Stavros, the location of the film “Zorba The Greek” Here there is a beautiful natural lagoon ideal for snorkelling. We will then return to Kalyves for your evening meal and your evening activities.
The morning is spent mountain biking in the orange groves near Stylos. After lunch, we pack and travel to Falasarna for our overnight camp to watch a fantastic sunset, and maybe a chance to see the “Green flash”. Here we will enjoy the evening with a BBQ on the beach and swimming. Local entertainment with traditional Cretan dancers can be arranged if you wish.
Today we break camp and head back to Kalyves to drop off our kit before going canoeing. We will paddle out to “Rabbit Island” and then, after a chance to swim, we continue to a small beach where you will hear the legend of when a pirate ship was turned to stone by the local priest. The small stone island really does look like an old Mediterranean pirate ship! In the evening you will have a chance to join in a village treasure hunt, alternatively beach games are available.
In the morning we depart for our Imbros Gorge hike. We travel through Askefo where we stop to look at a very special museum dedicated to the remembrance of the battle of Crete. Shortly after we arrive at the entrance to the Imbros Gorge. The trek takes about 2 – 3 hours and passes through some spectacular scenery. Once we come out of the gorge you will have chance to cool your feet or take a swim in the Lybian sea on the south coast of Crete.
We start the day with a raft build challenge and some sun in the sea. After lunch on the beach we take a trip into the ancient Venetian capital of Hania for sight seeing and some all important souvenir shopping. Some of the best bargains are to be found in the old “Agora” (Town market). In the evening we return to Kalyves for the evening feast, traditional Cretan music and dancing followed by a firework display.
We pack in preparation to return home.
Longer programmes are available and other activity options are also available. Other activity options include: Camping trips to remote beaches, 4X4 treks, and Archaeological and Museum visits, Treks into The White Mountains, Sameria Gorge treks, Tandem Paragliding and much more. The island of Crete has many beautiful villages and places of interest to see. Please call our office to discuss your choice.
